Cotton or Bamboo Towel?
Cotton or bamboo for corporate and hotel towels? A comparison by GSM weight, certifications, and printing techniques so you can choose the right material first time.
For most corporate and hotel orders, cotton is the more reliable choice: it withstands frequent washing, accepts embroidery and printing with ease, and comes at a predictable price. Bamboo is worth considering when you want a premium, soft feel and a sustainability story - for example in a wellness setting or as a gift.
In practice, three things decide the outcome: GSM weight, material certification, and the technique used to apply your logo. Below you will find how cotton, bamboo, and recycled cotton differ and when to choose each.
Cotton: the tried-and-tested classic for corporate textile
Cotton is a constant in the textile world. It is natural, breathable, and absorbent, pleasant to the touch, and takes personalisation well - whether by embroidery or printing. With frequent washing it will gradually show wear, and it dries more slowly than synthetic blends, but at the right GSM weight it will last for years.
For hotel and promotional towels, a GSM weight of 450 to 600 g/m² is most commonly used in practice. A higher GSM feels more luxurious, but also weighs more and takes longer to dry.
Bamboo: premium and soft, but requires care
Bamboo viscose is popular for its softness and eco-friendly image. It is exceptionally soft and absorbs moisture well, making it well suited to bath towels and wellness textile. It is, however, more expensive than standard cotton, and the fibre is more susceptible to damage, so it requires gentler washing.
Recycled cotton: for eco campaigns
Recycled cotton reduces raw material consumption and fits campaigns with a sustainability focus. Its properties are close to standard cotton, though it tends to be slightly less durable and offers a narrower range of shades. It is ideal for less demanding products.
Material comparison
| Criterion | Cotton | Bamboo | Recycled cotton |
|---|---|---|---|
| Softness | high | highest | medium |
| Absorbency | high | very high | high |
| Wash durability | very good | requires gentle care | good |
| Price | lower | higher | medium |
| Eco credentials | moderate | strong | strongest |
How to choose the right material
The choice depends on the intended use. For hotels and wellness, cotton suits everyday operations while bamboo works well for premium rooms and spa settings. For promotional and event towels, cotton or recycled cotton is usually the most cost-effective option. For eco campaigns, choose recycled cotton or certified bamboo.

Časté otázky
Bamboo viscose absorbs slightly more moisture than cotton and feels softer to the touch. That said, cotton at higher GSM weights offers fully adequate absorbency for both hotels and households, and it holds up better to frequent washing.
For hotel use, terry cloth in the range of 450 to 600 g/m² is most commonly chosen. A higher GSM feels more luxurious but adds weight and takes longer to dry, which increases laundering and drying costs.
Yes. Both bamboo and cotton can be branded with embroidery or printing. For the finer bamboo fibre, we recommend embroidery on the border - it lasts well and gives a premium feel.
It depends on the processing. Bamboo grows quickly and requires little water, but converting it into viscose is a chemically intensive process. For verifiable sustainability, look for a certification - not just the word 'eco'.
